Maz Her is a Hmong American mixed media artist who was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. She is an undergraduate student at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. As an artist she uses her Hmong last name, Hawj, as a platform name to proudly represent her Hmong heritage and create personalized artwork. After taking multiple art and design classes in high school, she became interested in photography and illustration, which led her to want to pursue art.

Hawj is an artist who strives to pursue music production and songwriting along with other forms of art such as sound design, photography, and mixed media art. Her artworks explore themes about family, social change, and identity. She takes inspiration from her Hmong heritage and language to create contemporary art that communicates her experience as a 21st Century Hmong American woman.

Maz Her also takes inspiration from many different types of artists like Kwon Ji-Yong and Terry Urban.
